Extend your current I-20
Extend your current I-20
Audience: F-1 visa PhD students
If you are studying under an F-1 student visa and seek to extend your I-20 end date, you must gain the written consent of your faculty advisor(s). Faculty advisors must confirm in writing (i.e., email) that they are willing to support you through the duration of the newly proposed end date.
NOTE: Nathan must endorse the 'Academic Advisor/Department Signature Required' at the bottom of page two on the I-20 extension form, not your faculty advisor.
Step-by-step guide
To request an I-20 extension:
- Review the instructions for OIE's I-20 extension application form.
- Consult your faculty advisor(s) about your desired I-20 extension date.
- Instruct your faculty advisor(s) to email Nathan with the new I-20 end date.
- Email Nathan your current I-20 expiration date and passport expiration date (required for I-20 extension application).
- Receive endorsed I-20 extension PDF from Nathan.
- Submit I-20 extension application to the MyOIE portal.
